Alexander Valley continues to climb the ladder as one of Californiaâs best spots to grow KILLER Cabernet Sauvignon with this UNDER $30 wonder!!
Mitchell Masotti in da house! What? You donât know him? You WILL. Heâs already had his hands in nearly a dozen 100-point wines, working alongside Russell Bevan first, and now Jesse Katz. Heâs also gone global â working for New Zealandâs cultiest of cult producers, Craggy Range, as well as another 100 point icon of global winemakingâŠPaul Hobbs at his premier winery, Viña Cobos. Toss is some time spent at other greats like Howell Mountainâs OâShaughnessy Estate, plus a couple Pinot/Chard luminaries in Dutton-Goldfield and Freeman out in SonomaâŠandâŠwell, DANG! Pretty much the PERFECT resume, ainât it?
SoâŠI suppose it shouldnât have been TOO much of a surprise that this wine nearly separated my brain from my body like some demented Tarantino kung-fu/samurai mash-up. But WOWZA! This 95 POINT beast is that plush, juicy juice, yâallâŠthe sort of inky, silky, decadent, and hedonistic marvel that 110% bears the undeniable imprint of both the Bevan and Katz signature styles! Black fruits, blue fruits, luscious mocha and truffle dust, with savory, roasted herbs, and a wee morsel of spiciness that showcases this volcanic rock/graphite minerality. This baby is pumping like 70âs-era Schwarzenegger, and finishing stronger on my scorecards than Nadia Com?neci in â76. 95 POINTS ainât too shabby for this new, completely off-the-radar winery (just TRY to find this anywhere else â not even a website yet!)
To have this for UNDER $30âŠit just addles the brain. If youâre looking to score that next big, âbefore they were famousâ starâŠlook no further!!!
